subject: Tips To Help Make A Website [print this page]

When an individual needs to make a website quickly, he can approach the task in many different ways. While there isn't really a right or wrong way to do it, there are some best practices that a webmaster can use to increase his chances of success. When it comes to building a website, there are certain tips to keep in mind that could help take the site to the next level if implemented correctly.

Focus on Content Instead of Container

When building a website, many webmasters spend a lot of time focusing on the container that the content will come in instead of the content itself. The container that the content comes in is often a template that goes around the outside of the content. For example, many websites have a logo or header on the top of the page, ads and other content on the side of the page and navigation on the other side of the page. Then in the middle of the page, they just put some content. In reality, much more attention should be paid to creating quality content and making it look attractive in the middle of the page. Most people don't want to see a lot of stuff going on around the outside of the page. Put more time in building good content that keeps readers attention and visitors will stick around longer.

Get the Design Right

Although the content of the website is critical, the site also has to be designed well in order to work. Webmasters should spend plenty of time getting the proper design down so that they improve their chances of success. Designing a website is not about trying to impress people with unbelievable graphics. It is instead about trying to arrange the content on the page so that it gets visitors where the webmaster wants them to go. People visit websites because they are looking for some type of information. It is a webmaster's job to figure out what they are looking for and then get it to them. The webmaster should be able to design the site in a clean manner that helps the reader flow through the content.

Use Graphics

Instead of just making a site that is full of written content, webmasters should also include graphics periodically. By including graphics in the page, the content is broken up a little bit so that the reader doesn't get bored. When the page is just full of written words, it makes it difficult for the average reader to stay engaged. Having some relevant graphics on the page makes it easier to stay interested in the content. The goal of the webmasters should be to keep people on the page as long as possible and graphics help do that.

Use a Good Content Management System

When it comes to building a website, most people don't like to deal with FTP or technical aspects anymore than they have to. Because of this, using a good content management system can make things a lot easier. For example, WordPress offers free software that can be used as a content management system for site owners. With this type of program, a webmaster can simply create a page and then put it into the content management system. It will put all the files in the right place and make sure that the page is published correctly.
