subject: The Quest For Sales Excellence [print this page]

Within every salesperson, there is a burning motivation to get ahead. If you did not have any motivation, then you would not have gotten into sales to begin with. You already have something inside of you that says that you can give people what they want, and that you can do so better than the average person on the street. If you are in the field of sales, then you already know that there is a path to follow if you want to increase your ability and your professional strengths. The quest for excellence may be daunting, but the rewards are unquestionably worth it.

Fighting Your Own Ghost

Long before you walk the path, you will have doubts. Your own "ghost" are those failures that you believe are going to happen. It will be the worry that is inside of you about making the right call, and the thought of what happens if you do not. It will be the fear of not making enough money, or not getting into the position that you need to be in. Some people are haunted by these ghosts for years before they can break free, and some never even shake them off at all. If you want to become an excellent salesperson, you need to acknowledge that they exist, and then analyze why.

Doubts are Like Clouds

Like clouds, your doubt is going to be hanging above you at all times. Even the most confident person in the world still has their doubts. The question is, what do you do about it, and what does it tell you? Like clouds, doubts take a form when you look at them. They might be your lack of success, or the fears you have socially. What you should understand is that, like clouds, doubts float on as well. There is a vast sky beyond them, and it isn't the shape of the doubt that truly matters, but whether or not it stops you from seeing your true potential.

Excellence is Forever

Once you have understood that doubt does and will continue to exist, know that excellence never goes away. Once achieved, you can remain excellent. The secret is not so much in the sales strategy that you use, or the people that you know, but in the principles that you have used to reach your position. Knowing the fundamentals is the key difference between those who rise and fall, and those who stay airborne.
