Android tablet PC limps to get to iPads domineering position

New developments are posing threats to iOS domineering role. Not that people will have some incentives when they opt to buy Android tablet, but basically competition to Apple will turn up tough as soon as win 8 springs up as a befitting challenger.

Will Apple iOS be able to recoup its market share sheared by overwhelming popularity of Android tablet PC specifically speaking android-powered kindle fire and all? The Amazon kindle fire was up in the popularity graph in the final quarter of last year mainly because of its attractive price tag that brought down share of iOS-run tablets (both media and PC-type tablets) to 55 per cent in the fourth quarter in 2011.

from 31 to 41 per cent. But, it would lose balance to 38.4 per cent this year as Apple marches forward, predicted El Segundo, California-based global leading tech researcher.

Secret of iPad success

Actually, the key to Apples media tablet success has been its offering of a complete hardware-plus-content ecosystem, said Rhoda Alexander, director for monitors and tablets research at IHS.

The combination of a good-looking device, well-designed applications, video, books and music has provided consumers with an easy-to-use product and an appealing use case. Such an ecosystem took Apple years to put together, starting with the iPod plus iTunes Music Store more than nine years ago, and it's proving to be a challenge for the company's competitors to replicate it.

Tablets made way to rousing success in a brief period of time and are still considered the sensational innovation in consumer electronics market. While media tablet gives a user ease of internet surfing, movie watching, games playing, and application usage, tablet PC combines flexibility of tablet with computer functionality, said IHS.

Surprisingly, media tablet is more demanding than PC-type tabletAndroid tablet PC or iPad. The trend will not necessarily remain the same, the report suggested.

Tempting sales figure

Overall, global tablet sales will grow by 85 per cent to 126.6 million units in 2012 compared with 68.4 million units in 2011 and continue to rise to 205.5 million in 2013, 265.6 million in 2014, 314.4 million in 2015, and 360.4 million units in 2016, according to Digitimes reporting IHS iSuppli Research.
