subject: Tame Your Terrors With Trio Of Thriteen. [print this page]

This year will be extra unlucky for some, not only is the world predicted to end, but there is a scary trio of Friday the 13ths.

To celebrate this, Blackpool's premier scare attraction has been challenging visitors to take part in luck-defying activities on each of 2012's, three, Friday 13th's by breaking superstitions. Prizes will be awarded to those who survive.

The first of The Blackpool Tower Dungeon's three Friday 13th challenges was to smash a mirror on Friday the 13th January, which is believed to bring seven years bad luck.

Taking place at the end of this week, the second challenge will be to muster up the courage to walk under a ladder. This age old tradition has brought bad luck to those foolish enough to test the fates for centuries and this Friday will prove the perfect testing ground for the myth's authenticity.

Challengers need to collect a free Friday 13th Challenge Card and have it stamped at the end of their Blackpool Tower Dungeon tour. Those unlucky enough to complete all three challenges will win tickets to the Dungeon's End of the World event on December 21st, the party to end all parties.

The Blackpool Tower Dungeon General Manager Garry Blackadder said, "Friday 13th is Britain's best known superstition. An estimated 2.7 million Brits are affected by parakavidekatriaphobia, a.k.a. a fear of this date.

"The Dungeon creatures are excited to be bringing bad luck on all who enter their challenge. Our Jester will provide a ladder for you to walk under...if you dare."

"We know that hangings one of our favourite Dungeon topics - were traditionally done on Fridays so we are a fan of the day generally."

In addition, every Friday the 13th, the creatures at the attraction will break as many superstitions as they can, ducking under ladders, sneering at magpies and trailing salt all day long.

Visitors are encouraged to swallow their fear and spit in the face of fate and do the same, for the chance to win great prizes.

The Blackpool Tower Dungeon will offer the second of its three challenges to all visitors on Friday April 13. The Dungeon will be open 10am to 6pm.

The final challenge will be on offer on July 13th.

Blackpool Tower Dungeon opened at the end of August 2011 and features actor-led shows recreating dark chapters of Lancashire history...from the Pendle Witch trials to the ravages of the plague.
