ComScore MobiLens conducted a study analyzing the growth trends of the Google Android platformthrough the five major European markets: France, Germany, Italy, Spain and United Kingdom, known as EU5.According to the average for the quarter ended in July 2011, across EU5 reported 88.4 million samrtphone users, up 44 percent over the previous year.Spain is the second highest percentage of users of smartphones with a share of 43.2 percent, ranking first position UK.
The data shows thatAndroidhas eaten the apple, overtaking the Cupertino company.The operating system ofGoogleshowed the fastest growth among the platforms of smartphones in the period, increasing its market share from 6 to 22.3 percentage points.
The growth ofAndroidin the last year surpasses both of all the other platforms by a significant margin to 32 points on Symbian, head of the table with a 37.8 percent share.
The data include taking into account the percentages of 2010 whenApplesurpassed an 19 percent share to 6 percent ofAndroid.The only platforms that lost share are Symbian and Microsoft, which declined by 16.1 and 4.8 percent respectively.
