subject: Things That Promote Skin-Aging [print this page]

The best way to keep the skin healthy is to protect it from the factors that promote skin-aging. Pollution and over exposure to the heat of the sun are two of the main causes of various skin diseases nowadays and their effects are magnified due to people's ignorance.

The leading cause of certain diseases (including skin disease) among humans is pollution. Since the skin is a very sensitive organ it can easily be affected by harmful chemical substances that are released in the air, whether smoke from vehicles and chemicals from paint and spray. The skin acquires various diseases not only through air but also through water pollution.

Ultraviolet light that comes from the rays of the sun is a well-known enemy of the human skin. Its harmful effects can cause not only wrinkles and blemishes but also dangerous sun burns. Too much sun exposure can also cause the skin to lose its moisture and eventually turn dry and scaly. When ignored, such situations can sometimes lead to more serious cases such as skin cancer.

Although too much exposure to pollution and the heat of the sun can prove damaging to the skin, its effects can be minimized as long as the skin is well-nourished. But when the skin is lacking of essential vitamins such as vitamin A, C and E, it can be an easy target for free radicals that can come in contact with the skin through any way possible.

In order for body's skin cells to heal and regenerate, it has to be well rested. Lack of sleep can result to a weak immune system that can lead to different kinds of trouble for bodily organs, and that includes the skin. The body should be able to get at least eight hours of sleep each day in order for it to replenish whatever nutrient it has lost during the course of the day.

Protecting the skin is as important as protecting the rest of the organs of the body. In fact, the skin should be one of your priorities since it is the only organ of the body that is visible to eye, and its condition determines how you appear to other people. Protect your skin from the harmful effects of pollution and improve its health by getting the right amount of nutrition and the right amount of rest it needs.
