subject: How To Create A Website That Ranks Well In Google, Yahoo And Bing [print this page]

Search engine optimization, otherwise known as SEO, can be highly lucrative if you know what you are doing. There are three significant search engines - Google, Yahoo and Bing. If you rank in all of them, you will be getting a steady stream of free traffic. What you want to do with the traffic is up to you.

For SEO, there are two components that you need to pay attention to. The first part is on-site SEO. This is the part where you have control over. We suggest using Wordpress to power your sites. Wordpress is an open source Content Management System that is free for personal and commercial uses. You can install SEO plugins that will take care of all on-site SEO on your behalf. Wordpress can also be readily installed from your Cpanel. So do sign up for cpanel web hosting if you intent to use Wordpress.

Off-site SEO is a little more tricky. You need to build links that point back to your sites. Usually, this happens naturally when you promote your sites. Other people will catch to know your site. They will blog about it, talk to each other in forums and so on. That is where you catch back links pointing back to your sites.

You can, of course, try to adopt a more pro-active approach and acquire back links on your own. Here are some suggestions.

Method 1: Article marketing. This is probably the safest link building approach. Always remember that you must tread with caution when acquiring links. Basically, you want to avoid getting links from spammy sites or low quality sites. When you submit articles to established directories, you never just enjoy all the SEO benefits. You are also building credibility for yourself by associating your sites with established ones.

Method 2: Web directory submissions. This is a quick and effective way to catch links immediately. Web directories contain links to all kind of sites. So you should try to submit to the appropriate categories. For scenario, if your site sells software, always submit to the Computers / Software category. Be as specific as possible so that your website doesn't end up next to irrelevant sites.

Method 3: Press release submissions. There are a great number well known sites out there that accept press releases. Sometimes, you may need to pay a fee to catch your PR out. But in return, you catch a ton of quality back links.

Method 4: Guest posting. Bloggers are always looking for fresh and original content to publish on their blogs. Many welcome guest posts because guest bloggers can offer new perspectives on existing topics. It doesn't cost the bloggers anything to publish a guest post. The blog gets some new content, and the guests catch back links. It's a win-win situation for everyone.
