subject: Safe And Secure Transport Is Essential For Politicians On The Campaign Trail Passion [print this page]

Passions often run high when the time comes round for the national and state elections and it is a time when many politicians and campaigners embark on a punishing round of travel both within and between states.

The distances politicians travel on the campaign trail over the five weeks of a federal election to meet as many voters as possible are considerable, given the scattered nature of small towns in many parts of Australia. This may include having to be in several locations on the same day or within a couple of days.

The Northern Territories around Darwin are an example of scattered populations living in places large distances apart, where politicians are likely to need chartered coach or minibus services to be able to cover the ground effectively. The same would apply to ensuring a presence in the scattered rural communities around Perth so that minibus charter in Perth or Darwin or even coach hire may be the only practical solution.

At the same time being on the road can create security risks for some of the higher profile candidates especially if their parties and consequently the electorate are involved in serious disputes on specific issues and the politician could risk facing some hostility and require reliability and discretion.

The entourage that may be involved for national politicians in particular can become quite large and this can create requirements for the charter of anything from a mini bus to a coach, anywhere from Perth to Darwin and all points in between.

Any transport company supplying services in situations like these needs to be able to offer, reliable, flexible and secure facilities and to have experienced staff on hand to ensure everything runs smoothly.

A political campaign on the road is likely to have special extra facilities in addition to proper security arrangements such as protection officers travelling with the team.

Communication facilities and being accessible are likely to be high on the agenda to enable people to keep in touch with their party headquarters or be accessible to the media if required.

There is seldom time for proper meals and therefore refreshments on board may be on the list along with facilities for freshening up en route before meeting constituents.

The transport company staff providing all these services may need to be able to act quickly if there are unexpected changes of schedule and to have their own network of local contacts for any changes or extra requirements that crop up.
