subject: How Plumbing Devices Help Water Conservation Efforts [print this page] There are a lot of ways in which a person or a family can help the Earth that they might have taken for granted. It is obvious that every bit of trash we recycle helps to keep the Earth clean and we also know that conserving energy by turning off lights is a big help. But there is another feature that can be done in your home so that there are a lot of natural resources to go around and to keep everyone safe and healthy. That is to conserve water use.
The old days of conserving water meant to turn down the stream as it ran from the faucet while a person shaved or brushed their teeth. In actuality, that probably wasted a whole lot of water. These days, there are special toilets made that use more force and less water to flush, aerators over sink spouts to use less water, showerheads designed to spread the water out farther and even appliances that cycle with less water. Are you using any of them to do your part in the effort to conserve water?
Save Water with New Faucets
Using less water throughout your house doesn't mean a whole lot of expensive changes need to take place. Conserving water can start small and you can add on faucets or appliances as the budget allows so that one day, your entire house will be a water conserving machine. One of the least expensive ways to work on using less includes changing out the faucets.
The faucet itself might not be the way to save money, but the devices inside of it will. The size of the pipe and the aerator within in end of the pipe will help keep the water usage down. Putting special aerators in heavy use sinks, like the main bathroom and the kitchen will keep the water flow strong, but also filtered to prevent wasting of water if the tap is left on to run. Start with the most used sink in the house and then gradually add a new faucet with the aerators or simply replace the aerators in the sinks and keep the faucet the same.
High Efficiency Plumbing Saves Water
When the budget allows, new appliances can be installed around the home that will make a difference in the amount of water that is used on a daily basis in the home too. There are showerheads designed to spread out the water to cover more area without having to spray out more water. The showerheads use less water, even though the spray goes out farther.
Bigger appliances to save water include a high efficiency water heater and low water dishwashers. Both are set up to use pressure to push more water through the pipes instead of actually using more water. There are also washing machines designed to use less water during their cycles and to reuse the water that is pulled inside. When all of these appliances can be installed in your home, the water usage will drop drastically. And with less water, there also comes the nice benefit of having a lower water bill each cycle. So you can work on saving the Earth by conserving water and pay less in the process - a double win!
