The pleasure of flying is like no other. It provides an excitement and an adrenaline rush which cannot be matched by any other activity. There are over 23 institutes which provide pilot guidance in India. However, before enrolling you must check whether these institutes are enrolled by the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation). You can enroll for a pilot education course immediately after class 12. But, there are certain qualifications you need to have and certain criteria that you need to fulfill to get yourself enrolled.

A student wanting to get a Commercial Pilots License (CPL) has to be 18 years on the day of application. They should have successfully cleared calls 12 with Physics and Mathematics as their main subject. They must also have a clearance certificate from DGCA approved doctors (Class I and CLASS II medical examinations need to be cleared). The DGCA website provides a list of all the affiliated doctors.

A person, hoping to undergo pilot training in India, needs to acquire two licenses before he can think of going for a CPL. These two licenses are the SPL or the Students Flying License (which includes theoretical knowledge of flying and the benchmark is 75%) and the PPL or the Private Flying License (which includes 60 hours of flying and flight simulator teaching). The duration of CPL is approximately one and a half years. The duration of PPL and CPL may vary depending on the availability of instructors and the flying conditions.

As informed earlier, there are 23 institutes approved by the DGCA which provide professional pilot preparation in India and flight simulator schooling. The approximate course fee required to become a commercial pilot including an endorsement to fly a big plane is close to 50 lakhs. After gaining these licenses, a commercial pilot is gets the chance to be a part of aviation company as a trainee-pilot. The approximate cost of this course is 50 lakhs and various institutes provide scholarships which are completely based on merit.
