subject: Your Local Opticians, Providing A First Class Service [print this page]

Highly trained Optometrists, Contact Lens Practitioners and Opticians. They use state of the art instrumentation to provide a first class personal service. They have four practices in our independent group of Optometrists, all of which have a permanent named practitioner in residence.

There are branches found in Woking, Guildford, Camberley and Fleet.

John Harwood Optometrists recommend and use Varilux varifocal lenses. Varilux isnt just a single design of varifocal, theres several Varilux lenses, each designed for different frames and needs.

The best varifocals cost a little more but theyre worth the premium. They give you more natural feeling and sharper vision, even in poor light. Youll benefit from wider reading areas too, giving a much more natural reading position.

The Varilux range includes personalised lenses whose design follows your prescription and the way you wear your spectacles. General-use Varilux lenses are ideal for most people in most situations and specialist Varilux lenses are designed for specific wear (on a computer for example).

Small frames are very fashionable but they dont give much room at the bottom of the lens for the reading area. Thats where specialist Varilux short lenses come in, because they have been designed for just one purpose: to give the best possible vision for wearers of small and shallow frames.

If you have an active lifestyle then theres a lens for you too its called Varilux Sport and it gives the widest-possible distance and arms length vision. Its ideal for golf and anything from target shooting to table tennis.

For their excellent quality, John Harwood Optometrists recommend Crizal Lenses. This is because Crizal lenses anti-reflection properties offer unmatched clarity of vision.

Transitions lightweight photochromic lenses allow you to wear your spectacles in the sunshine as well as indoors. Their sensitivity to light when youre outdoors means you dont have to carry sunglasses as they become as dark as conventional sunglasses in seconds, cutting through glare for extra visual comfort. They lighten again quickly when you go back indoors.

The latest Transitions XTRActive lenses quickly turn a very dark grey outdoors and, even inside a car, become moderately dark, removing the need for dark glasses when driving. They return to a light tint indoors and also block 100% of UV radiation, so theyre very safe.

Xperio is a new polarised prescription lens from Essilor. Xperio lense cuts through glare to give much clearer vision and can often reveal things you might otherwise have missed. Your perception of colour is also better than with conventional sunglasses. Theyre safer for drivers as they remove dangerous glare making it easier for you to see whats on the road, significantly reducing your reaction times.

An alternative to glasses you may feel more confident, show off your eyes and have the freedom to wear different coloured clothes every day without worrying what matches the colour of your spectacles. If you wish, you can still wear make-up with contact lenses and whats more, contact lenses wont steam up, smudge or fall off!
