The new season of the hit TV show, The Biggest Loser, had begun a couple of weeks ago. For anyone who doesn't watch the show, The Biggest Loser chooses 16 of the most severely obese people in the country, and they engage in a fierce competition to get in excellent physical shape, and become the biggest loser. The competitors come from all walks of life, but they all have one thing in common: they need to lose a lot of weight, and in many cases, their life depends on it. In the last nine seasons, there have been many miracles on the show, people have transformed themselves into slim, healthy humans. Knowledge, hard work, and changes in habits all contributed.

Which brings me to why I'm writing about the show. When The Biggest Loser first came out, my girlfriend and I were quite obese. We used to eat whatever we wanted, and we ate pizza, burgers, ice cream, all kinds of fattening things, while we watched the show! For a while, it didn't bother us; we thought to ourselves, hey, those people on the show are way worse off than us, right?

Wrong.

We had let ourselves go too long. Our weight, and our health, was getting out of hand, and soon we realized we had to do something about it. When season 6 of The Biggest Loser came on, that's when we decided, let's work with them this time. We didn't have all the fancy workout equipment the contestants had, but there are plenty of ways to exercise, and eating right is just plain common sense. And that's how we got started.

Today, we still have fitness issues from time to time, but we have found that eating right and staying fit is a constant battle. Getting fit and healthy is hard; staying that way is challenging. But we find ways to make time and keep on.

Recently, I have started working out in the mornings again, before I get ready for work. I get up early, put on my tv, turn on the Wii, and put in my Biggest Loser Fitness program, and Bob's avatar and I get to work. Eventually my body will get used to his method of training; when that happens, I will switch over to Jillian Michaels' Fitness Ultimatum. If anyone can work me and Melissa into shape, Jillian can! We have her workout videos, and the Wii fitness game, and when it's too cold to go outside, we have various items in our house, such as a treadmill, exercise ball, hand weights, and some equipment in our basement. Yes, we do what we can when life permits.

If you really want to change the way you are living your life, if you want to eat right and get fit, then do what you must to make the time for it. Your body is not going to magically change on its own; you have to force it to make it change. Whatever you enjoy doing in your life, find a way to make it healthy!
