The HRD ministry of India has introduced Indian Science Engineering Eligibility Test (ISEET) as a common entrance exam test for admission to the engineering colleges. The colleges that come under this exam for admission are those which have been funded by the Central government. These colleges included all the IITs, NITs and deemed universities under HRD. The exam will be conducted for the first time from the year 2013. The aim of this exam is to eliminate the burden of appearing for different engineering entrance exams of various colleges. The validity of the exam is for two years. The exam will be held twice a year which will eventually increase to 3 to 4 times a year. The exam has been designed on the lines of international entrance exam called "SAT".

The introduction of this exam means the other popular exams like IIT, JEE, AIEEE will no longer be held from year 2013. The exam is divided into two parts: Main Paper and Advanced Paper. The students are tested in Comprehension, Logical reasoning Critical Thinking and problem solving skills. The questions are multiple choice questions. The students will have to have Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as his/her subjects in the 10+2 examinations. The score of 10+2 examination plays a crucial part in final result as it will have a 40% weightage. It is an online test.

The government can scrap all engineering entrance exams, as well as the IIT-JEE and therefore the AIEEE, from 2013-14 and cut back the strain levels of scholars.

ISEET can have 2 elements, Main and Advance, every of 3 hours length. each tests are given on a similar day, between ten am and five pm. ISEET 2013 are held in either March or April.

ISEET Main are an objective kind exam, and can take a look at comprehension, vital thinking and logical reasoning. ISEET Advance can take a look at problem-solving ability in basic science subjects. the 2 tests along can indicate a candidate"s scholastic level and aptitude for science and engineering.

One of the benefits of this exam is that the student will not have heavy financial stress which occurs due to appearing for different entrance exams with different fees. In addition to center funded colleges, the small private and state government funded colleges in different states have also shown interest in accepting the ISEET score as a basis for admission to their engineering courses. Some of the colleges are IIT Mumbai, IIT Kanpur, NIT Agartala. There are many institutes that have started training for students who intend to appear for ISEET exam.

The ministry has known as a gathering on April eleven to debate the proposal and type out the problem. when stiff opposition by the IITs on the HRD ministry"s proposal to alter the pattern of IIT-JEE exam from 2013 "" by giving four-hundredth weightage to board marks "" a "compromise" formula could evolve for admission, that keeps the weightage proposal intact while not diluting the standard structure of the exam.
