subject: A Drop In The Ocean Lyrics | Ron Pope & The District [print this page]

Known for his achy love ballads, the Atlanta-bred Ron Pope wrote the A Drop in the Ocean lyrics along with his writing partner, Zach Berkman. Pope says that after writing the song, he shelved it for about six months, not quite knowing what to do with the song yet.

It was his experiences with falling in and out of love, however, that the A Drop in the Ocean lyrics resonated more with Pope. Pope then dusted off the song, recorded it with the band The District, and released it on Myspace, where it became an internet sensation.

The song garnered 7 million hits on Youtube. Pope had been able to sell over 150,000 tracks online around the world without having so much as toured or make public appearances.

Before starting his music career, Pope deemed his future to be in professional baseball. He enrolled after high school in Rutgers University on a baseball scholarship, yet an injury abruptly ended his sports career.

After transferring to NYU, however, he met the future band mates of The District and hit it off well with them. The band toured on college campuses across the country and recorded three albums under The District band name.

Before getting signed to Universal Republic Records in 2009, Pope was an independent distributor of his own solo music through Tunecore. Ron Popes song was deemed one of Tunecores top sellers, according to Tunecores CEO Jeff Price. His fan base rose even more dramatically after being listed on the Top Unsigned Artist chart.

In 2008, Pope appeared on MTVs Total Request Live and performed. His songs have also been occasionally used in television scores, including 90210, The Vampire Diaries and So You Think You Can Dance, as well as the United Kingdoms Made in Chelsea.

Ron Pope stayed with the major record label for a year, recording two singles before opting to distribute his own music independently. Whatever it Takes was the first album he released on his own new label.

Although Pope hasnt yet become a huge worldwide sensation, he has admitted to taking pride in the grassroots movement surrounding his work. Since 2008, Pope has recorded and distributed eight albums, including one live album, Ron Pope Live & Unplugged in New York. Pope, as of 2012, is currently on tour for his new album Atlanta.

Pope independently produced, written and distributed two albums: Daylight and the Bedroom Demos.
