subject: Vacationing In Whitby, How About A Whitby Hotel Or Whitby Guest House? [print this page]

Holidays abroad or holidays at home is one of the inevitable questions asked by many people at this particular time of year. As the holiday season approaches, folk are busy browsing through the holiday brochures or surfing the internet for inspiration on where to spend their holidays or short breaks.

With the problems that may holidaymakers have been having over the last months with the air traffic controllers in various countries, then the prospect of holidaying at home seems even more attractive. There is no doubt that some of the warmer climes are inviting, but, truth be told, there is no better place when the weather is good than in our own country.

Destination is important, of course, and would seem to be paramount in the decision of where to actually stay. North, south, east or west, there are a plethora of different locations that can suit most families and individuals seeking a break away.

A little known part of England which is rapidly growing in popularity is the north eastern coast. In particular the town of Whitby has seen a large growth in the tourist market. One of the original spa towns which attracted the Victorians in the eighteenth century, the Whitby of today has changed little since then in respect of the buildings but has changed enormously in respect of the facilities available.

Whitby is an historic fishing port with seafaring connections. Best known with regard to Whitby Abbey perched on the cliff top on the East side, there is the connection with Sir Captain James Cook the famous adventurer and explorer who was apprenticed as a young boy in the shipbuilding industry before leaving to commence his adventures with the Royal Navy. There is a Captain Cook museum on one of the oldest streets in Whitby. The museum in Pannet Park also has a large collection of artefacts collected on his travels.

There are many attractions to hold the interest of the visitor but for any of them to stay in the town there must be accommodation to cater to the most discerning of visitors. Whitby excels in this department with its wide range of hotels and guest houses which are numerous in choice and styles available. The vast majority of the accommodation providers in Whitby comply with the rules and regulations as laid down by the English Tourist Board which has a grading system for both hotels and for guest houses. The grades commence at one star through to five stars for the most excellent. The hotels, obviously, are on a different grading system than the guest houses purely because of the size and costs involved. For any establishment to be included on the local bureau of accommodation they must adhere to safety precautions with regard to fire safety and hygiene certificates.

There are some most unusual styles of accommodation in Whitby ranging from the most modern boutique through to the styles of the eighteenth century and even those on a more Gothic theme. The hotels may offer a little more upmarket rooms, however, the standards of the guest houses are improving annually. Most of the standards in Whitby are set very high as can be evidenced by browsing the internet and viewing the rooms in advance and finding More Guest House Information.. The internet is by no means the only option to find accommodation, the local Whitby Guide and occasionally the national press will showcase various hotels and guest houses.

Whitby is a wonderful town in a stunning location situated at the edge of the North Yorkshire moors and the North Yorkshire coastline, offering a wide range of accommodation and, in total, a recipe for a relaxing holiday.
