subject: Why Its Important To Look After Your Cars Appearance [print this page]

Now is the time of year when people begin sprucing up their homes and gardens so that they look at their best for the spring and summer. If youre planning a spring clean, dont forget to pay a bit of attention to one of the places where you probably spend a lot of time in your car.

As well as making it look great, most people dont realise that taking a bit of time to clean and polish your car actually helps to keep it running efficiently. This is because a lot of road grime and pollution can build up on your bodywork and car parts such as wheels and windscreen wipers, which over time can begin to cause corrosion and clog up moving parts.

This should be reason itself to give your car a good clean however, its surprising how many people neglect their motors, waiting until they can barely see through the windscreen before giving it a wash. Breaking out of this habit and cleaning your car regularly can make a big difference to how it looks, and more importantly, how it drives.

While it can be tempting to simply take your car to a cheap car wash and get it cleaned for a few quid, nothing beats the satisfaction of taking the time to clean it yourself. There are plenty of quality car cleaning products available from brands such as Autoglym and Meguiars that allow you to do a professional job at home. There are even some great car detailing kits that contain wax and clay bars, so you can really give your motor that showroom finish.

If youre not sure how to clean your car properly, lots of step-by-step guides are available on the internet, and there are even YouTube videos showing you the best way to clean different parts. As a general rule, start cleaning from the top down, and pay particular attention to the wheels as this is where a lot of dirt will have been caked on.

The good news is that looking after your car in this way will help it to run better and will keep your car parts in a good condition. Cleaning your car on a regular basis also helps to retain the value of the vehicle, as a well-looked after motor will always sell for a higher price than one thats obviously been lacking a bit of care and attention.
