subject: It Will Rain Lyrics | Kelly Price [print this page]

Kelly Prices It Will Rain lyrics were originally written for the 1999 soundtrack for the film Life, starring Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence.

Also known by Its Gonna Rain, this song has not been recorded under any of Kelly Prices other studio albums, but solely on the Life soundtrack. It Will Rain lyrics can be heard in the 1999 film Life, and are essentially used to illustrate the pain of misunderstandings between people who care about each other.

Once dubbed the Aretha Franklin of her generation, R&B/Soul singer Kelly Price was born in 1973 and raised in Queens, New York, where she began singing as a toddler in church. Her parents were heavily involved in church, her grandfather being a pastor at the local Pentecostal church; thus gospel music deeply influenced her musical leanings.

She also started listening to R&B at a young age, despite it being restricted in her religious household.

In 1992, she started singing backup vocals for George Michael and was overheard singing alone by Mariah Carey. Carey then brought her to her own producer, Tommy Mottola at Sony. Price toured with and sung occasional back-up for Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Aretha Franklin, the Isley Brothers, among others.

She then collaborated with very well-known hip-hop and pop artists, including Whitney Houston, Notorious B.I.G. , Brandy, Mace and Monica. Her most recognizable backup vocals come from Notorious B.I.Gs Mo Money, Mo Problems, which led to opportunities to make a solo album.

T-Neck/Island Records released Prices debut album, Soul of a Woman, in 1998 with her first hit single Friend of Mine, about a lover cheating on her with her friend. The album managed to reach platinum by the strength of her singles.

Her next collaboration with Whitney Houston, entitled Heartbreak Hotel, earned her a Grammy nomination in 1999. Afterwards, she went through a personal rough patch in 1999, when her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and her mother-in-law had died.

The emotional toll of these events caused her to lose about one hundred pounds. Her mothers cancer went into remission, and she recorded the single Love Set You Free for The Hurricane soundtrack. The proceeds she earned from this single went to breast cancer research.

Price has released six albums since, while receiving recognition for the Grammies and Soul Train awards. After her 2006 album This is Who I Am, Price went on a recording hiatus while still performing live and touring across the country.

She has also written music for other artists, including Faith Evans, R. Kelly and Wynona Judd. She and her manager husband moved to L.A. after her music began being used more often in film and TV. Her most recent album, Kelly, in 2011 received a Grammy nomination for best R&B vocal performance. Her most recent album also signals her first listing on the Billboard charts since 1998.
