With travel expenses skyrocketing through the roof, entertainment is getting more expensive day by day. But without entertainment life can be dull and the opportunity to learn also diminishes. But entertainment is not what it used to be. You dont need to travel to a movie house or even a theatre show nowadays. Subscribing to Cox Cable or something similar is all that you need to bring a home theatre experience right into your home. They are inexpensive compared to going to a movie hall or even a stroll in the museum.

Although the idea of using television as a medium as an entertainment medium is not new, the way they are used to entertain the masses by the addition of important features is noteworthy. One of the most frequently used device that most cable operators give you is the Digital Video Recorder. The concepts behind recording are not new. In fact they have been in existence for almost 3/4 decades, but they really never took off because of the constraints associated with the transmission technology. But things are vastly different these days, thanks to the optic fiber cable.

Optic fiber cables have become the standard way to deliver TV programs to home s across the US. Of course satellite TVs too has a fair share of market, but only to the extent where it is not feasible to provide optic fiber cable connectivity. Optic fiber cables enable DVR work smoothly and can be bought or rented from service providers. The choice is really yours, but if you are looking for more features and an extended storage capacity, then buying one in the open market is best. Here are some tips that you can consider before you shop for one.

a.First decide the purpose of the DVR. There are two broad varieties; one for the cable TV and the other for satellite TV. Of course there are those that can work with both; cable and satellite. When you choose one with dual capability, you will also be paying a little more than the normal price, but it is worth that extra money.

b.The next point you need to decide will be based on your television compatibility. If you own a HD television or you intend buying one in the immediate future that go for DVR that are HD capable with high recording capability. Typically a low DVR should be able to program 250+ hours of standard TV transmission or 72 hours of HD program. Talk to your vendor and find out if they can give you a DVR with a larger capacity than the typical models.

c.A DVR capable of transferring content to a laptop can work wonders for you if you are frequent travelers. Havent you seen fellow travelers watching TV on their laptop even in busy airports or even railroad stations? If you though they bought the movies on CD, you are probably mistaken. Chances are that they have been transferred to the hard disk directly by the DVR, and that is also the most economical way to do it.

d.Sometimes a DVR capable of burning a CD, DVD or Blu-ray can be very helpful, especially if they are for educational purpose. If it is legal to record and play or even distribute why not order a compatible DVR and make a DVD? Such high end DVRs may cost a fortune but its worth every dollar that you put into them. Then there a so many other features that can make recording easier and simpler that you can consider for buying. At the end of the day your choice will be dictated by how big your budget is going to be for the dream DVR you are planning.
