subject: Puerto Morelos Real Estate Buoyed By Foreign Investment [print this page]

Puerto Morelos is a resort town just 20 km south of Cancun. Puerto Morelos is also known as La Joya del Caribe which means the Jewel of the Caribbean. And indeed it lives up to its tag. This small charming fishing village has long stretches of magnificent beaches and a laid back atmosphere which make it a perfect destination for those who to retreat to a tranquil destination.

Sandwiched between it two illustrious neighbors - Cancun and Playa del Carmen Puerto Morelos has managed to carve a niche of its own. If you do not want the hustle and bustle of Cancun and find Playa del Carmen also crowded then you will fall in love with Puerto Morelos. Its population is an eclectic mix of people from USA, Canada, Europe and Mexico plying different vocations. It has a large number of expats who have retired and decided to live a peaceful life in Puerto Morelos.

Puerto Morelos is fast becoming the favorite destination of investors and retirees. With Cancun International airport so close to it, travelling to Puerto Morelos has become even more convenient. The Riviera Maya tourist corridor is witnessing a lot of development and inflow of investment which has boosted not only the tourism but also the real estate in Riviera Maya. One such big ticket investment is the decision of Chinamex, a chinese giant to invest 10 billion Yuan which roughly translates in to $1.5 billion in the region. It will be developing the Dragon Mart Cancun which will boost the local economy tremendously.

The mart will be located near Puerto Morelos and 15 minutes from Cancun Airport. This investment will mean more than 5,000 direct jobs excluding the Chinese workers. Needless to say, there will be thousands of other indirect job avenues and a great opportunity of the local businesses to flourish as they will get access to affordable Chinese products.

One of the immediate benefits of this mega project will be the increase in the value of Puerto Morelos real estate. With such a big mart in the neighborhood, the destination will see a greater influx of not only tourists but also local Mexicans who will move in search of jobs.

The location of Cancun was chosen in view of the fact that it has very good air connectivity owing to Cancun International Airport and the option of port infrastructure.

Such inflow of foreign investment in to the region bodes well for its future. Long considered as just exotic tourist destinations, these towns in the Riviera Maya are rapidly transforming in to small engines of growth spurred by investments and a positive sentiment. Development of these erstwhile small fishing villages in to towns with all facilities and infrastructure means that they will become even more attractive to tourists and will see more tourism.

If you find that the property prices in Playa del Carmen and Cancun are not in your budget, then towns like Puerto Morelos may well be what you are seeking.
