subject: Panda & Penguin Playing Problems? Learn How To Be Googles Best Buddy [print this page]

With Google Panda and now Penguin , whatever next?! Google's algorithm changes always seem to cause massive trouble amongst Internet marketers each time it happens. And lately, they appear to be happening more regularly.

A lot of online marketers are complaining that their 'white hat' websites disappearing off the face of Google overnight, and many others are reporting that everything is ok, or even better with regards to ranking! So what's been happening?. Well, from the emerging thoughts, post-update, there is more evidence that for the majority things are 'A' ok, and if it isn't for you then you can take some steps to try and resolve the situation. All of Google's updates are to wash out the rubbish from their search results as they need to continually deliver quality and relevant search results to their users.

This is very good news for those who build links and understand what's needed of them. As things start to settle, it is becoming clearer that you still need to have good quality, unique content on your website. And, building links and SEO are not dead as some marketers seem to believe. If you simply work with Google then they can be your best ally. Here are 3 of the leading thoughts about the Penguin saga:

1) Variety in your anchor text.

Don't have your primary keyword in every anchor text that you setup, this is a no-no and is likely to raise Googles flags. The thoughts of some leading marketers (who have been doing extensive split testing), is that you should probably use your primary keyword about 25%-30% of the time in the anchor text, the rest being made up of LSI type keywords and call to action words.

For example, if your keyword is "dog training" you would use that in the anchor text about 25%-30% of the time, the rest of the time rotate the anchor texts, examples of variety may include:

"puppy dog training"

"dog training tips"

"how to train your dog"

"visit the site"

So you can see the variations, some of the examples don't even have keywords in them like the call to action word "click here". This is a more natural way for linking to occur to a site and is how people general link to other sites.

2) Link variety

It's becoming more and more important to have variety in your link building sources. So just using high PR profile links only will not do. Just using article submissions will not cut it. You need to use every type of link source out there to vary your link profile. So a little from everywhere is the order of the day. Again this is a more natural way links occur in the eyes of Google and it makes sense.

3) Link Relevancy

Finally, you need to be obtaining your links on related topic sites. So a dog training site, you could get links from a dog animal lovers forum, vetinary site or comment on a blog about animals and pets etc.

It would be very unusual for say a car website to link to a dog training website. It wouldn't happen in the real world and this is an important aspect of link building.

So, there you go, Google are just cleaning up their search results and those who play by their rules should be fine and do well. Those link spamming, then they will suffer the wrath of the Big G. Follow these simple steps, keep it natural, keep it safe!
