View redundancy as an opportunity to do something new with your life, like a chance to pursue other avenues. If you have just been made redundant, the following is intended to help you get back on your feet.

First of all don't worry. When people are faced with redundancy, it is common to feel a range of emotions, including:

Shock and Denial

Poor self-esteem

Anger

Low self-image

Lack of direction of what to do next for the better

If you've just been made redundant and have been in your job a long time, that can only increase the effect of those emotions you feel.

As I've said, you now have a great opportunity to do something new that you've always wanted to do, but never been able to take further. Ask yourself the following:

If you were guaranteed not to be a failure, what would you choose to do?

What did you want to be or do when you were younger?

If money was not important, what would you choose to do?

Have a think about the person you are and the work which that suit you. Are you good with animals, people, or with children? Recognize your strengths and also your weaknesses. List the accomplishments and skills you have gained in your job(s) to date. You will be surprised by how many skills you actually have and how many are transferrable to other lines of work.

Below is a real life example of one of my friends, David who has just been made redundant.

He had been a factory worker for a window manufacturer, having been with the company for 10 years. His was skilled in setting up and operating machinery, filling quality audit information and supervisory skills. He didn't want to return to the same kind of work so we both sat down and listed his skills and desires. David had always wanted to work with computers and using the power of the internet to market and sell products although he didn't have a clue where to start. After a chat, it became clear that affiliate marketing was something he could follow. After joining an affiliate marketing training community (there are many, but he opted to join Wealthy Affiliate on my recommendation), David is now on the way to earning a full-time income, without a boss and away from the factory job. Even though David had no qualifications or previous affiliate marketing experience, he is now learning a new skill-set which will help secure his future earnings.

So if you've just been made redundant, don't feel like your world has just fallen around you. Seek the things you've always wanted to do, and take steps to work towards it.
