subject: The issues that the midterm elections should address! [print this page]

Why is it that politics is never about real issues!

Why is it that politics is never about real issues, situations and or the facts regarding same? This mid-term electioneering process really causes one to wonder, what did "Americans People" expect "President Obama and the Democrats" to do in such a short time in office? Work a miracle and if so by what means? Well I suppose the twirling of a wand like in the Harry Potter movie series or the waving of his hands and intoning the famous words "Abra Cadra". Or perhaps it was to declare "Open Sesame" like in the old Arabian knights movie, better yet it may be the rubbing of the proverbial "Genie bottle" and having any three wishes! Whatever their thoughts, it is quite clear that their expectations have been and are, unrealistic and as such could not be met by any government facing the similar set of circumstances. Be they Democrats or Republicans!

Who was at the helm of the country when the US economy begun to fall apart!

The question that baffles me most however is which Government and or Party was at the helm of the country when the US economy begun to fall apart, resulting in the crisis the country has been facing over the last several years, Democrats or Republicans? Who took the decisions that eroded the wealth, health, strength and well being of the American economy, its people and image! Was it President Barak Obama and the Democrats or President George Bush and the Republicans? How many years of Republican politics and policies did it take to place "America" at the crossroads it faced in 2008? If my memory served me right, it was 8 years of what some folks have dubbed the "cowboy and or wild west" style of governance and leadership. A leadership style in which the rich landowners and ranchers all benefitted from the decisions made. While the small ranchers and poor settlers were left at the mercy of "their justice and the pity of their will".

Crucial midterm elections!

So, here we are at these very crucial midterm elections, when all Americas should be thinking, let's put our backs to the wheel and push the cart through the mud, where it has been stuck for the last 10 years. By helping the Democrats to retain their strength in both houses of Government, in order that the push to restart the economy can continue, while the small gains made are being consolidated. Instead there is this unbelievable undercurrent with intent to undermine; instead of under pinning the positives of the last two years of Democratic rule. One may ask, what positive gain are you talking about, when everything seems to remain the same as it was before Barak Obama became President? Well if it is, then that goes to show how bad a shape the Republicans left the economy in. So much so, that after two years of "yeomen" effort, the Democrats still cannot get things moving the way they wanted to!

The "blame the other person for my wrong doing" concept!

Instead the American people are doing exactly what history teaches, that no matter how much history teaches, we suffer from an easy to forget mentality and or very short memory span syndrome! It is this type of forgetful attitude, coupled with the "blame the other person for my wrong doing" concept that enables these politicians to get away with "blue murder. Just think that a couple years ago the Republican Party wrecked the very economy that they are now seeking to get the reins of, with the chant that they now have the solution to fix what they messed up in the first place. Where were all these individual and or collective "solutionary" and or economic problem solving" ideas, back then? Have they all had a remake of their model or a brain storm or have they finally awakened from their slumber and if so to what effect. To finally right their wrong! I do not think so, no not for a minute!

What qualifies them to be able to fix it now!

It is for this reason that I implore the American people not to make the mistake of trusting the Republicans at this time. For if they could not fix the problem when their own party was in power, then what qualifies them to be able to fix it now! Or is it that having seen the economy settling and finding itself in a position to begin positive and real growth, it is believed that the present President has outlived his usefulness! In fact it is not inconceivable that having taken the country through the painful readjustment and policy realignment and restructuring process, the Republicans now believe that the hardest part of the task has been achieved. With that thought in mind, the blame it on "Obama" campaign was initiated in order to wrest control from the Democrats so that they may again become the government. Their primary thought being to capitalize and build on the tough decisions that were made in the interest of the American people over the last 2 years, taking credit for the future success, but none of the hardship involved in putting the process in place!

Wake up America and "smell the roses"!

Indeed the question that begs to be answered is, what will we gain and or achieve by returning to the failed politics and policies of the Republican era? The answer however, comes back clear as crystal! Nothing but the same old, same old! The rich get richer and the poor get poorer and or remains as poor as before! While the middle class remains transfixed in their middle "classity", not recognizing that, considering the new world dynamics, unless radical changes are made to how everything functions now, then what is to come will be worse than what has been! Wake up America and "smell the roses" the only choice for a forward movement in the economy, real growth and sustainable recovery, is to allow the Democrats to continue to build on the foundation that they have laid since assuming the leadership reigns in February 2009.
