La Tomatina Festival is the worlds biggest organised food fight at Bunyol, 40 km west of the coastal city of Valencia. It is held on the last Wednesday in August, although the partying starts earlier in the week for most of our holiday travellers. The highlight of La Tomatina festival is the huge tomato fight which happens between 11am and 1pm on that day.
Bunyol is a small village of only 9000 population whose population grows to some 30 to 40 thousand on the day of La Tomatina Festival 2012, so there is hardly any accommodation in the village so be sure to book well in advance.
