subject: The Dream Of An American Muscle Car [print this page] When someone mentions an American Muscle car, one automatically thinks of the Chevrolet Camaro, it is a proper muscle car. For years we Brits have not been able to get our hands on an officially imported right hand drive model. This is all about to change as Chevrolet is now going to start selling the Camaro through its dealerships in the UK. Its a dream come true for fans of American muscle cars.
You can order a Camaro at a Chevrolet dealership now, but you will need to be a bit more patient to get your hands on one. The Camaro will be ready for customer deliveries by the end of spring so not too bad really.
The Camaro coupe will be priced at 34,995, while the Camaro convertible will cost 39,995. At launch there will be a special 45th Anniversary model, it will come with carbon black paint with bespoke graphics. Other standard-fit equipment includes dark silver 20-inch alloy wheels, unique leather interior and instrumentation.
All UK spec Camaro models in the range will come with a six-speed manual gearbox, but are available with six-speed automatic transmission at a 1,500 option. GMs StabiliTrak electronic stability programme and traction control are fitted on all UK spec Camaros as standard. It has not been announced whether or not the new car will be available with Chevrolet Motability deals.
In true muscle car form both the coupe and convertible use large 355/365mm ventilated discs and four-pot aluminium Brembo callipers. The model uses multi-link front suspension with a double ball joint configuration and 4.5-link independent rear suspension at the rear.
All variants of the Camaro will use a 6.2-litre V8, developing 426bhp with acceleration between 5.2secs and 5.6secs, depending on transmission and body style. All models are limited to 155mph electronically.
It will be exciting to see the Camaro on UK roads with the steering wheel on the correct side of the car!
