Drinking games are games that - for entertainment purposes only - involve consumption of alcohol on a high-level. These games have been played since the Victorian age. A drinking game is any competition that involves many people drinking any form of alcoholic liquid as one of the primary rules of the game. Usually the games are often played only with alcoholic beverages. However, they can also be played with coffee, juices or sodas while still providing the same level of fun, but for some reason most of today's youth considers alcohol drinking as fun and a class apart from other activities.

Drinking games can be separated into many broad categories. Easiest among all is based on chance of game. One can roll out a dice or even pull up cards and based on what happens whoever is playing the game has to drink certain amount of alcohol. Rules of the game can be set according to the mutual understanding of the players. Like one who win's drink and one who loses pays the bill or vice versa. While paying dice one who rolls out six drink and one who loses pays. The fun of the game is everyone gets an equal opportunity to drink and its fun playing in a large group.

Other category of drinking game is based on verbal skills of a person. In such game one requires to remember string of words or names and add a new word to it. This is fun when played in huge numbers it is simple yet requires lots of brain work. One person has to say one fruit name and the other person has to say what the previous person has said and should add other fruit. In this way 8th person has to remember seven fruits name and add one. This is best played when there are 15-20 members and when you skip any fruits name you have to drink or sponsor a drink for winner according to game rules.

Drinking games can be played with board games, as well. The famous one among drinking game is the Ping-Pong game. For playing Ping-Pong ball a long Ping-Pong table is required. On the table glasses filled with alcohol are placed in triangular pattern. Then, one team throws a ball across the table to make sure that the ball lands up on the opponent side. If the ball thrower is successful, then the opposing team has to drink the alcohol placed in the glass where ball landed in.

There is no doubt about it that these drinking games are quite interesting and can add life to any party, but often youngsters forget the fact that this game is for fun. This pleasure can be taken over by disaster when the members drink too much and then drive. There are many instances where over-drinking has led to major accidents and deaths. Drinking games can be played with coffee, tea or soda and you could have nearly the same amount of fun and pleasure - it all depends on your frame of mind. If one really thinks that drinking alcohol best serves the game participants, then drink moderately up to a limit that you can still function safely. Excessive alcohol drinking is injurious to health; this is one reason that drinking games are banned in a few American universities.

Next time when you play drinking games try it with a juice instead, and stay healthy and safe.
