Samsung has revealed its new smartphone flagship at this time called Galaxy S III as a viable rival of the number iPhone series from Apple.

Marketed by its manufacturer as a handset "designed for humans", the Galaxy S III features eye and voice-recognition technology, which Samsung hopes will outdo its rivals in a crowded smartphone market.

The new smartphone also packs an amazing 4.8-inch screen together with an 8-megapixel camera. The unveiling was held in London on May 3, 2012 in a party backed by an orchestra.

According to Juniper Research, Samsung has overtaken Apple in sales of smartphones during the first quarter of 2012 making it the second biggest competitor of iPhones. Samsung is also the leading best-selling mobile manufacturer, bypassing Nokia.

The Galaxy S III runs on the most recent Android 4.0 operating system Google called Ice Cream Sandwich. Its eye-recognition technology allows the phone's screen to remain on when a user is looking at it. The voice-recognition feature called S Voice technology--the equivalent of Apple's Siri--will enable users to wake their phone up with a simple voice command. Other commands are configured to initiate other phone functions. A user can say "Hi Galaxy"picture" to open the phone's camera app or say "cheese" for the phone to take a picture. The face recognition software can identify faces in a photo and recommend sharing them on Facebook.

One of the sponsors of the Olympics, Samsung revealed also that it will be sending devices to London with mobile payment option enabled during the 2012 Olympic games.

Successor to one of Samsung's most successful smartphone the Galaxy S II, the new device is a testament to the fact that many people want something other than an iPhone.

This was true to Galaxy S II, a phone packed with an amazing array of high end features worthy of challenging the might of Apple's iPhone sales around the world.

Galaxy S III comes with a much improved hardware than its predecessor though. It supports both WCDMA and GSM (HSPA+) networks. It has 1 GB of RAM and a WXGA (1280x720 pixel) resolution screen. The international version of the device will use a 1.4 GHz Exynos 4 Quad-core system processor but the US version will have a Qualcomm's dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor to handle LTE functionality.

It was announced that it will come with at least two color options--pebble blue and marble white.
