subject: How To Shoot A Video With Regular Camera [print this page]

Summer days are almost thereSummer days are almost there. In light of the upcoming season and the inevitable return of countryside meetings and family parties many folks have to arm themselves with their cameras again. And here we have to face the reality: we are either incompetent when it comes to shooting videos, or simply in the wrong line of work. The majority of people simply switches the camera on and presses the Record button. Obviously, that is not enough to make a good video. Okay, if your previous experience as a camera man was a failure, you still have a chance to improve your skills and learn more about shooting home videos. Well, probably your movies wont resemble Avatar, but they will definitely be times better than they used to be last year. Hey you, a guy with the camera, lets skip straight to the point.

Start with inspection of your tool. Dont forget to charge your camera and grab all the necessary cables and other supplies. Low battery of forgotten cable can become a fly in the ointment on the party.

Capturing the best images is not as easy as it seems, so make sure you know your tool through and through. Manuals and guidelines will save you a lot of time and efforts. Take a minute to read it beforehand. Play with your camera a little bit, check the main menu and the most important options. You can write notes for yourself if you want. This is the point that many people overlook and suffer from it later.

Using tripod is a good thing to think about. The worst thing about home videos is their being shaky, especially by the end of the session. Of course, a lot of cameras possess image-stabilization option, but in fact it doesnt work well in the majority of cases.

Lighting conditions matter a lot, too. Jokes aside, however fancy the landscape and actio0n might be, poor lighting can ruin everything. Dark and blurry video looks ugly, and thats exactly what we are trying to avid. The best variant is shooting outdoors of course. When it is impossible, just try to involve all the available sources of lighting in the process.

Remember: zoom option is your bitter enemy. It can cause pixilated effect and make the quality much worse. Modern digital cameras promise great zoom options, but in fact even the most sophisticated camera will fail the task. Optical zoom is better though.

Well, this short list of tips can help you in improving your home video skills. Nice camera, a set of skills, and some software to polish your records will doubtlessly help you with your shooting.
