subject: Playa del Carmen Homes – Walk Everywhere, Safely [print this page] Two key factors in choosing a home to live in are safety and convenience. This is likewise true when choosing your Playa del Carmen home to enjoy life in a beachfront community. For this reason, it is important to choose a home that offers both.
In terms of safety, Playa del Carmen is in general a very safe area. This very good level of safety is even higher in gated communities, which include manned security at their entrance. Retirees and families enjoy walking through their neighborhood streets at complete ease. Traffic is also really low, and so this aspect of safety is also very high.
In addition to being safe, these communities are usually offer a pleasant visual and environmental atmosphere, with large trees offering shade and refreshing the air. There are usually bike trails, plenty of green areas, and pleasant homes providing a community refreshing to walk in, relax in and simply live in.
Convenience, on the other hand, is found in Playa del Carmen homes near shopping, restaurants, etc. This can be found downtown or in the two new malls which have been built in the past few years. The two features are not necessarily exclusive. One gated marina-golf community includes a shopping and dining area as well as a mall. Some small gated developments (condos, homes or land) are appearing near the malls.
One options stands out as particularly convenient. The gated community of Playacar, the original upscale area of Playa del Carmen, is located directly next to downtown. Playa del Carmen homes located near the north gate enjoy close walking access to the nicest parts of downtown, with an elegant outdoor plaza about a block from the entrance, and just past that plaza, Fifth Avenue, the heart of the area's dining, shopping and nightlife activity. The beach is also about a 10 minute walk.
Residents of this area will also enjoy easy walking access to Mayan ruins, a bird sanctuary, an excellent bilingual school, and a golf course, in a community like the ones described above. Many expats live in this community, making easy to get to know people while residents accustom themselves to Mexican culture. The expats who've been around for a while will help a lot in this exciting process as well.
And, if you want to take a little trip over to the island of Cozumel, the ferry dock is right where the plaza meets the beach. The ferry also lands in the traditional town center of Cozumel, again with easy walking through the town square and surrounding shopping areas!
Of course, there's no need to walk everywhere the well designed roads are excellent for driving. But if you want, it's nice to know the option is there, and it's safe!
