subject: Building A Private Practice: Are You Letting Yourself Off The Hook? [print this page] Virginia Satir is reported to have said that We cant see our own backside. I believe that, do you? Especially when it comes to accountability.
I have been reading a lot of books lately about happiness and responsibility. Here is what is standing out for me now:
1. We often get upset because things arent the way we want them to be.
This is the classic I will be happy ifor when We dont let our clients get away with that type of magical thinking. But what about ourselves? Do you ever find yourself thinking that if you just had more clients or if they didnt want to use their insurance that youd be happier and wealthier?
This brings me to the second thing I am focusing on now:
2. If things arent like you want them to be, how can you change them? Or your attitude toward them?
Specifically, if you dont have enough clients, how many hours a week are you performing focused and consistent marketing activities activities that, of course, fit with your marketing personality type?
I ask this because in my conversations with many therapists these days, I am hearing that marketing therapy isnt working as well as it once did. The phone isnt ringing as often.
When I dig deeper, many therapists tell me that they have slowed down their marketing efforts. No wonder the phone isnt ringing. You cant let the economy..or fear..or complacency stop you if you want to have a full and profitable business.
Now, dont get me wrong. I am not talking about running around changing the colors on your website or attending to too many networking meetings. I am inviting you, and maybe challenging you, to make sure you dont let yourself off the hook. I invite you to stand up and take responsibility for getting clients. And get help if what you are doing isnt working.
You CAN be a wealthy therapist (or coach or healer). It takes passion + focused and consistant effort. Even now. Even in this economy.
