1. Don't post your number on sites. This applies to any form or site that asks for your mobile number. The truth is mobile numbers are similar to emails in many ways and they both can be spammed. Be wary, since some of these third parties can easily gain access to several sites and can get a hold of your number, thus increasing your risk of getting spammed.

2. Don't give your number just to any person. When filling in details on a form especially on sites or companies that want to ask you for your mobile number, always be wary since the information that you give them might not be just disclosed to them. If you do get to verify your interest with the company, then they will assume that you are open to being contacted with their spam messages on promos and discounts, or whatnot. Take note that the reliability of these companies can be questionable, some of them don't even exist but just operates so that they can squander money from unknowing victims.

3. Avoid replying to spam texts. In relation to the second step, you must never give your number to anyone else or to any site as well or else you'll start to get spammed. Some of these spam texts are just waiting for you to reply to them so that they can be sure that you phone number is indeed active, thus you are giving them an opportunity to spam you more, the same thing with e-mails.

4. Do always check a company's privacy policy and or marketing schemes or plans. If however if there is a statement that says that the company will not give your number to any third party, still be wary and don't completely trust them. Read, understand and comprehend the details even the ones in small prints so that you will know about all the agreement.

5. If all else fails, the complain to the Information Commissioner's office (ICO) They are the ones responsible in investigating spammers and communication offenders such as sites or companies that forward private data to third parties. The offenders who will be found guilty will pay a a justly fine.

People who do scams and spam are continue doing it because they are getting responses from people, good or bad. If people won't reply or ignore them, they they won't be able to gather the needed data for their operation thus making what they are doing seem worthless.
