subject: Sympathy Gifts For A Grieving Individual [print this page]

We all must face losing someone that we love at some point in our lives. If you have a friend, family member, coworker, or someone else who has recently lost a loved one, it is important to offer your support. Ignoring the persons grief is usually the worst thing that people can do even if that grieving individual does not reach out for help. An effective way to show your support is to offer that person an appropriate sympathy gift.

The type of gift you offer the grieving person will depend on their loss and your relationship to that person. For instance, a simple card is appropriate for someone that you dont know all that well but would still like to offer your sympathy to. You can personalize the card with thoughtful words that show that you care. Many sympathy cards already include words of love and support.

For someone that you are close to, you might consider a more personal gift along with plenty of emotional support. Unique gifts such as a memorial tree or a memorial bench provide an enduring way to honor a deceased individual. If you purchase a memorial tree, for example, you might also plan a small planting ceremony for the deceased individual. A memorial tree will become a living tribute to the deceased person, and a place for those close to that person to visit and pay their respects. A memorial stone with the deceased persons name or other meaningful words can be placed by the tree in order to dedicate that space to the loved one.

Memorial candle holders offer the grieving individual a way to remember their loved ones every day or on special days. On the deceased persons birthday or on another important anniversary, the individual can light the candle and pay their respects. You will find candle holders that are engraved with beautiful poems or meaningful words of comfort.

Condolence lamps are another type of sympathy gift that will help the grieving individual remember the light that their loved one brought into their life. Many of these types of lamps are made with Tiffany-style glass that casts a beautiful light.

Whatever gift you choose, make sure that you personalize it with a card or by talking with the grieving individual directly. Every bit of support that person receives will help them to move along in the grieving process so that they can begin to remember their loved one without feeling so much sadness.
