subject: How To Perform A Free Apartment Search The Most Efficiently [print this page]

Have you ever found yourself looking through the tedious apartment magazines to find apartments for rent? If so, you've been going about your apartment search all wrong, and you may even be losing out on free money in the process. I've outlined a great method to use while conducting your apartment search that should prove useful in helping you find a great new place to call home.

If you follow these three simple steps, you'll find that apartment hunting isn't any harder than 1, 2, 3...

1. First, go to the Google search engine and type in the phrase "apartment search" along with the city and state you wish to search for apartments in. Once you've done this, you'll be provided with 10 results that match your search. Click on any one of the first 3 results because these are the most relevant, according to Google, and will likely show you the apartments that interest you most. You could start by just visiting Rent.com to being your search, but you must create an account, which is often times more trouble than it's worth. Google won't require you to have an account with them to do a simple apartment search, so it's the best place to start.

2. After you've visited the first three sites in the Google results, compile a list of 10-15 apartment communities that you'd like to inquire more information about. Once you've got their community name, you can then search Google again for that specific community and find their direct phone number on their Google Places listing rather than an 800 number that tracks and records your call. The reason for this is in the third step, and should not be overlooked. Once you have called each community and asked the relevant questions as to what you're looking for in an apartment home, then you can narrow down which communities you'd like to tour in person. You'll likely want to make an appointment to tour each of these communities over the weekend, and one right after the other so you can get all your research done at once.

3. During your initial phone call to the community, you will be asked where you heard about their property, and you must say you saw them on Rent.com first. If you initially saw their community on Rent.com, and then you ultimately move in to their community, Rent.com will pay you $100. Yes, it's that easy to claim free money. It often comes in the form of a gift card, but anything is better than nothing when you're pinching penny's.

If you are unable to find an apartment you're looking for using the method above, it's likely that you're very particular about where you live, and you may need to do additional research prior to making your decision.
