subject: Caring For Your Dance Shoes [print this page]

When you decide to take ballroom dancing classes, or really any dance classes, you will need to purchase for yourself a good pair of dance shoes. Bloch shoes and Capezio dance shoes are the most prevalent brands of shoes in the dance world. You can find Bloch shoes for pretty much every kind of dancing you can imagine and the same goes for Capezio as well. After you have gotten the shoes, some of which are very expensive, you are going to want to protect your investment by taking very good care of them.

The first rule of dance shoes is that you should never ever wear them outside. These kinds of shoes are made by craftsmen specifically balanced and created for the art of dancing. As long as you intend to wear the shoes as dance shoes never wear them outside of the studio or dance room.

The bottoms of most ballroom dance shoes are covered with a special kind of suede or suede material that helps the shoes glide across the floor but have enough grip on them that you won't go skidding about. Over time however, the material on the bottom of your shoes gets matted down by pressure and by dirt and other debris on the dance floor. You can prevent this by purchasing a special wire shoe brush. You use the brush to gently "un-matte" the shoe bottoms. Be careful that you do this over a garbage can because you can pick up a lot of unwanted debris on the bottoms of your shoes! You would be surprised at how much can come off of the shoes when you use the brush.

You should always protect your shoes by keeping them in a shoe bag. This can be anything from a specially designed bag to just a tote that you only use for your dance shoes. This keeps them from getting dirty in the car, on the subway, or in your purse. Be sure to keep some extra band aids, heel protectors, and fragrance sachets in the bag with your shoes. These can be helpful in the health of your feet and in those great ballroom dance heels!

When you make a purchase of Bloch shoes or Capezio dance shoes, you want to protect that investment by properly caring for them. Follow these tips and you will have your shoes around for a long time.
