subject: Lessons Unlearned: Hollywood Still Struggles With Alcohol And Drug Addiction Leading To Rehab [print this page]

You might think that after watching a long list of celebrities succumb to pressures and competition and wind up in rehab, those who follow might learn from their example. But that is not the case. This cutthroat industry continues to send people to drug and alcohol addiction programs for recovery.

The latest celebrities on drugs or alcohol who wisely sought help:

Heather Locklear was hospitalized in January 2012 and then went to rehab, after developing a problem with mixing wine and prescription medication. Reality star Tila Tequila checked into rehab after substance abuse and psychological problems started creating serious problems. Kim Richards, one of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, entered rehab toward the end of 2011 to address her alcohol abuse problem. Tatum O'Neal went to a rehab in February 2012 but depending on who you listen to, this may have been preventative care so she could have her post-surgery pain medication use supervised. Not a bad idea for someone who has previously had substance abuse problems. The news that Demi Moore had gone to rehab in January was widely publicized, after the media carried stories of inhalant use that required emergency medical care. In February, Gerard Butler used rehab to deal with addiction to pain medication. Industry Demands Can Sometimes Drive Addictions

Celebrities not only have to deal with the competition of the industry, they also have to work whether or not they are injured or in pain. In 1986, actor Chevy Chase checked into the Betty Ford Center to deal with painkillers he began taking after the running joke of his comic falls began to take their toll. Actress Jamie Lee Curtis began using pain relievers after cosmetic surgery but then found that they provided a welcome escape from life's stresses. And Gerard Butler began using pain medication during the physically demanding filming of the movie 300.

On the other hand, alcohol is a constant companion at Hollywood events. If a person has a problem refusing alcohol, it's a tough environment in which to stay sober.

Narconon Returns Sobriety to Those Who Have Lost the Battle With Drugs or Alcohol

When you are talking about alcohol addiction and recovery, you should know that thousands of people each year choose Narconon rehab centers to regain their sobriety. Whether famous or humble, seven out of ten people who choose Narconon find lasting recovery as a result.

A Narconon rehab center is long-term and holistic, meaning that the reasons for addiction are addressed as well as the damage done by addiction. When a person achieves sobriety through the Narconon recovery program, it is because the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of addiction are all included. Each person must learn how to deal with life's stresses without needing alcohol or drugs to cope, he or she must have personal integrity that was destroyed by addiction restored, must experience relief from guilt carried around after too many compromises were made. When all these points of damage are repaired, a person once again knows how to live a sober, enjoyable life.
