subject: Orthodontics For Adults [print this page]

Having crooked teeth will never feel rightHaving crooked teeth will never feel right. For many of us braces were not exactly on the menu in our youth. Perhaps our parents had spotty dental coverage or a shortsighted dentist or orthodontist recommended against braces at an age when things were too soon to tell. Perhaps time marched on and a mixture of mismanaging your teeth and the never having early issues addressed will make things only get worse and worse as time plods along. Either way you will never find comfort in your smile in a mirror or any other reflective surfaces. Chances are when you look at your face all you will see are that huge flaw, those unsightly teeth of your's.

Luckily the stigmas regarding braces being only for teens and preteens are no longer really the common thoughts on the subject of braces. These days people older and older are making the investment in themselves to get braces even at ages that once seemed too old to even consider such an expenditure. These days people are taking care of their dental problems when they can and often that means later in life. People in their 20's, 30's, 40's 50's and yes, even in their 60's are now considering braces or invisalign to manage what would have simply been an excepted reality of their lives just a few years ago. As a result people are getting straighter and straighter teeth daily and in the no one wants to be the last hold out for straight teeth.

When you were in high school there was likely a stigma attached to crooked teeth but it was nothing compared to the stigma of wearing braces. Now that we are all older we realize what a generally wise idea having braces really is and as a result there is a distinct move towards having older and older people wearing braces. Better it would seem to be taking care of a problem than living with it, so a result of this is that braces nearly have a cool cachet at the moment.

Growing up with crooked teeth may beat having braces in your youth but living with crooked teeth is starting to seem pretty silly as an adult. Any orthodontist would gladly set up an appointment for you no matter how old you are. They will assess your situation and very soon know if they think you should try braces or perhaps a retainer or some other more moderate form of orthodontics.
