subject: Choosing My First Frames [print this page]

I never dreamed I would end up wearing glasses. I remember when a friend of mine got hers when we were 11. I thought what a hassle it would be to always have those wire frames attached to your face! However, my last eye exam reported that I do in fact need corrective lenses. So began my search for stylish yet functional eyeglasses St Louis.

I am lucky enough to have health insurance through my work. Luckier still, it includes vision care. This means my plan gave me a sum of money to spend on a pair of frames. I was looking for something elegant and stylish yet also affordable.

My first stop was the mall near my house hear in St Louis. Housing more than one eyeglass shop, I figured it was a good place to start. No one in my family has glasses so I had never even been into one of those stores before. Luckily, the sales people were very friendly and showed me around the different sections.

It was clear by looking through the racks what the most popular styles were at the moment. I could remember seeing certain frame shapes on the front of celebrity magazines. I had never noticed how much a pair of frames can say about a person before! They are actually quite a fashion statement, whether worn with a prescription or just for looks.

After reviewing what the mall stores had to offer, I checked out other shops around town. I ended up finding a locally owned store with stunning designs. These were nothing like the mass produced items I saw at the mall. Instead, each had personality, character and a distinct style.

Of course, these frames cost more than what I had seen in the mall. That is just how it goes when shopping local. My insurance stipend paid for a little over half the price of the frames. The rest of the fee I settled with my credit card. I started out completely unsure of what I wanted for frames and ended up with a pair that I feel presents my personal style in a fashionable, attractive way.

I had to wait a week to get my eyeglasses back from the store as they send away for that kind of work. I knew the mall could do it faster, but I wanted the perfect frames and wasn't in any sort of hurry.

I picked them up just two weeks ago and then, last week, went in for an eye test at the Missouri Department of Motor Vehicles. Sure enough, I passed with flying colors with my eyeglasses St Louis perched atop my nose. My world has more details in it now that I can see better and I like to think my style has a little more class than before.
