Drug addiction is not just a stigma or a disgrace; the level of harm that it causes is severe and matter of grave concern. Addiction to drug could sap life from an individual and stopping drug consumption is highly difficult. Individuals often try to stay away from drugs but soon relapse. That"s where a drug rehab center has its role to play.

Rehab centers help addicts to say "No" to drugs. Normally, those centers have a number of therapists on board. It has a positive side; different therapists have expertise in different areas and if inpatients are looked after by them, the therapeutic procedure would be effective.

Some drugs have a high index of damaging effect. Those drugs are cocaine, heroin, methadone and barbiturates. A mild exposure, even five to eight doses of any of these drugs can cause neurological and psychological problems and to worsen the matter, induce the taker into lifelong addiction. There are people, who"ve been taking these drugs for many years, they"re exposed to a number of diseases and health issues.

There are various types of drugs and each type affects a certain part of the body; marijuana as a depressant is inhaled in the form of smoke. The smoking process could be severely injurious to lungs. Some drugs fall under the category of stimulants; cocaine, ecstasy, crystal meth are such drugs. These substances affect the central nervous system and could cause multiple sclerosis. Still there are hallucinogens such as LSD, Ketamine etc, consumption of these drugs could cause the taker to be victims of chronic addiction. Thus, anyone who is addicted to these malicious substances, is needed to go through extensive treatment procedures. Such wide ranging therapeutic procedures could be delivered only in a drug rehab center.

These centers treat inpatients in a controlled atmosphere. Because the environment is controlled, patients are regularly monitored and their health statuses, positive or negative are routinely registered. If it is found that inpatients are showing improvement, that"d imply they are responding positively to the therapy. If on the other hand, it is found that their physical and mental conditions are steadily deteriorating, that means the treatment is somehow going wrong. In such cases, the therapist needs to reconsider the treatment procedures and bring in changes, whatever is required. Such facilities can only be availed, if the treatment on its entirety is taking place inside the four walls of the drug rehab center.

Residential centers, which offer drug rehabilitation program, offer both short-term and long-term treatments and some highly specialized sessions are arranged by them to reduce addiction from drug addicts. Such programs can be carried out only by experts and that too, within a restricted environment. The specialized programs are improving cognitive and behavioral functions, instructive sessions, individualized therapies etc.

Many of these residential rehab centers offer their services for free and inpatients don"t have to spend a very long time in these centers. The duration is usually 4-9 months, depending the patients" overall physical and mental improvements.
