subject: Driving Laws And Ethics In The Us [print this page]

Every country has unique laws regarding each and everything. These laws are what keep the system working in a managed manner. In the United States a general set of laws apply to every state; however some states have different set of laws. If you are traveling to a different state then you better check out the driving laws of that state. These laws can keep a person safe while on the road. Not following these laws could land you in an accident or otherwise in a fine.

Driving on the right side of the road is what many countries have in common. In America, you are supposed to drive on the right side; people from other countries usually find it hard to follow. Another thing is that you need to pass a car from the left. In countries, where cars are driven on the left side, cars usually pass by from the right side. Having knowledge of the right of way can help a driver in many ways as well. These would save you from many accidents and in the easy flow of the traffic. Apart from this, the right of way is considered as the ethics of driving in the US.

An Ambulance, police fire engines and other such emergency vehicles are to be given way. This is common all around the world. However, in America, you need to give way to pedestrians and bikers as well. You would have knowledge of suicide lane. This is the middle lane on a three lane road. This middle lane is used only for turning. The problems arise when small towns use this lane to flow the traffic in either of the directions. Due to this, many accidents tend to occur, hence it is called suicide lane.

The laws in the US are quite strict regarding the parking. For the ease of the handicapped there are special parking places in the US. It is considered a crime if a person who is not handicapped to park in such places. In fact, you need to get a special permit to park in such places even if you are handicapped.

Knowing the speed limit is the best way to avoid being fined for over speeding. Mostly throughout America, the speed limit is set to be 65 to 70 miles per hour. However, in certain states the speed limit is lower. For instance, in Washington DC the speed limit is 55 miles per hour. In rather unpopular states like Wyoming, the speed limit is great, like 75 miles per hour. Checking in with the speed limit of each state, or town is recommended to all drivers. Keep in mind that these are the speed limits of the interstate highways.
