subject: Msn Car Of The Year For 2012 [print this page]

Land Rover Range Rover launched the Evoque last year; it is a compact crossover SUV built here in the UK. The Evoque is a new breed of cars aimed at urban buyers wanting premium and luxury driving. This is the smallest car produced by Land Rover and also the first to be available with only 2-wheel drive. The automotive industry and its consumers have been positively impressed by the latest Land Rover offering.

The Range Rover Evoque in Conwy is a different looking car; it has a high waistline and narrow windows. In the highly competitive compact SUV market the Evoque had to stand out and it does exactly that. The premium feel you would expect from Range Rover is not lost on the Evoque; the interior gives you a premium ambience supplemented by high tech gadgets and toys.

Currently the Evoque is available with a choice of two engines, a diesel and petrol. The diesel engine is a 2.2 litre turbo unit that has 150 bhp while the petrol engine is a 2.0 litre and has 240 bhp. Both engines are available with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. 2-wheel or 4-wheel drive is available as well as the choice of 3 or 5 doors.

Since its launch the Evoque has won many awards, the latest is from MSN cars who have voted it the MSN Car of the Year for 2012. The Range Rover Evoque collected 12% of the total votes to take the top spot, with two other home-grown rivals rounding out the top three. The Aston Martin Virage claimed second spot with 9% of the votes, followed by the McLaren MP4-12C with 8%.

There might be more interesting models coming out based on the Evoque, like the convertible Evoque concept shown at the Geneva Motor Show. It is based on the Evoque Coupe and it features a full retractable roof with a roll over protection system, yet it still retains the drop down tailgate and four seats.
