subject: The Best Car Sales Of All Time [print this page]

Whether buying a brand new car or a used model, one thing is for sure; the vehicle needs to be reliable, trustworthy, and generally well manufactured in all areas. Although many people often strive to be individual and purchase unique and unusual objects, this is not very often the case with a car. The tried and tested cars are popular for a reason, due to their high quality and reliability.

Although total car sales cannot be measured against each other in an entirely fair way, as new cars have not had the same length of time required to sell millions of cars, looking at the overall sales figures car sales does give a good indication of which models are worth buying.

The Honda Civic is placed 6th in the list with overall car sales of over 18 million vehicles since 1972. It has always been seen as a reliable and stylish car, with a sporty twist to many of the models. In 5th place in the list was the Ford Escort, which sold more than 20 million cars between 1968 and 2000. These cars still sell very well on the second hand market due to their reliability and performance.

Another classic car that continues to sell well to the present day is the Volkswagen Golf, which appeared at number three on the list. There have been many incarnations of the Golf, and they have always been held in high esteem within the motoring community. Sometimes the used car resale price on these vehicles can be slightly higher than expected as they are extremely sought after. There have now been over 25 million Golfs sold to date.

Number one on the list of all time car sales is the Toyota Corolla. This Japanese car has been in production since 1966, and has now sold more than 32 million worldwide. It is a small family vehicle that is targeted towards being affordable for the average person, and in this respect it has been a huge success. Toyota has an extremely good reputation for reliability, and the Corolla is a fine example of this. The resale value of these vehicles remains steady as they have a good reputation for being long lasting, and it is unlikely that they will be removed from the top spot of overall car sales in the next few years.
