A foreclosure stays on the credit report for a period of 7 years. During this time, the homeowner can find it difficult to get mortgage or home loans. This means that it would be difficult for them to own a house. If they do get loans, they are charged sub prime rates or interest rates that are higher than the prevailing interest rates.
