subject: Funky Fashion Wellies...mmm [print this page]

Summer is nearly here...except, before that arrives, we have April and May, which as many of you know, is the UK's wet season (-that's right! We have a wet season, even though it feels as if every month is the rainy season, with the exception of January, which is the snowy season). The wet season means only one thing as far as footwear fashion is concerned: the emergence of the Wellington boot.

There is no more traditional footwear associated with the UK than the Wellington boot. Wellies are British shoes, through and through, they are as British as Fish 'n' Chips, as pork pies, as the Royal Family, as Haggis, and as Leeks. To most British people, Wellington boots bring back pleasant memories of childhood - splashing in puddles, running through woods, and playground frolics. As adults, though, we are no longer allowed to do these activities (- not during the daylight hours at any rate), but we can still remember and we can still wear our wellies; updated for adulthood to be sure, but we can still wear them!

Today, then, wellington boots have undergone a fashion revolution. No longer are they the remit of avid gardeners, of small children and of farmers, now they are much loved and coveted by the fashionista too.

Let's take a closer look at the type of fashionable wellies you will find today:

Graphic Print Wellington Boots

These are the boots of choice for those funky festival goers amongst us. They come in a range of prints. Some, for example the Havaianas, are very summery, they can lift your spirits in the gloomy months, or suit the seasons in the warmer months. Some, like the Kiss Kiss, will have you puckering up to your nearest and dearest - wear these and see how many people smack you a kiss, it is instinct! For those of a more psychedelic festival vibe, the Peacock will be fantastic! Other prints that are popular are animal prints, polka dots, and flower power.

Ankle Wellington Boots

These are great for those of you who do not want to commit to the full length boots. These slip on and slip off easily - unlike some wellingtons, which can be irritating to get on! These also come in a wide range of colours and styles. You can find floral patterns, animal patterns, and polka dots, too, as well as plain colours.

Amongst this style there are also the snow boots, which are a personal favourite. We particularly like the Juju boots in the bright rainbow pattern - gawgeus!

Sexy Wellington Boots

There is a huge range of sexy wellingtons to choose from this year. There are the ones that sport a stiletto heel, so even you little people can keep that height. There are the sexy patent buckle festival boots. There are the sexy toe-flick cowboy wellingtons, complete with spur-esque feature. Then there are the lace-up wellies. Finally, there are the cute little bow ankle booty wellingtons - pure yumminess!
