subject: Norway Black Scholarship,Education, [print this page] Let's get one thing clear before discussing the sensitive issue of "black scholarships". No pun intended, but a lot of people feel that calling a scholarship grant "black scholarships" is a little offensive. However, this is not supposed to be taken that way as it is a fact that African Americans belong to the minorities in the US, together with other nationalities like the Hispanics and Asians. The blacks are even at an advantage as most of these scholarship grants are easily availed by them by simply being one of the minorities.
If you try to google "free black scholarships" you would be surprised with the number of educational opportunities that are readily available for African Americans. Some of these programs provide full financial aid, while some only provide supplemental assistance to help you with funding your education. One of the organizations that provide scholarship to blacks is the Ron Brown Scholar Program. This organization is focusing on students who will be attending a four year course, have a solid academic background and have great leadership skills.
Another organization called The Fund for Theological Education also provides black scholarships. They offer assistance to students who wish to pursue religious and theological studies. The FedEx/UNCF Scholarship Initiative Fund on the other hand offers financial assistance to students who will be attending a historically black college or university. The same goes for The Ossie Davis Endowment Scholarship.
The Ron Brown Scholar Program is also a program named in honor of Ronald H. Brown, the first African-American appointed to the Cabinet post of Secretary of Commerce and the first to serve as Chairman of the Democratic National Committee. This type of black scholarships program is set for the high school seniors that have excelled in academics, have outstanding leadership potential, and has performed community service. They should also be able to provide documentations to prove financial need.
