subject: Using Vitamins For Beautiful Skin [print this page]

Some people just seem to have great skin no matter how they treat it or what they eat. They are the lucky few. For the rest of us, a little tender loving care is usually requried in the quest for supple, glowing skin.

Beautiful skin is reflected by even skin tone, as well as lack of blemishes and scars that could be as the result of acne. The first thing that one has to do in order to have beautiful skin is to ensure that their diet is healthy. Your skin normally reflects everything that you eat. If you constantly consume unhealthy fatty foods, you will have skin that is unnaturally oily. Moreover, such diets may lead to the formation of acne as well as skin rashes.

Having said that, there are some steps you can take to help you on the way to firm and better skin in the form of creams and emollients that specifically contain vitamins for skin care and health.

Vitamin A for example is widely used in skin creams and contributes to skin health by stimulating various processes including skin regeneration. It also has strong anti-acne indications and is the active ingredient in the prescription drug Retin-A.

Chemically known as ascorbic acid, Vitamin C plays a very important role in the manufacture of collagen which along with elastin gives skin its suppleness, elasticity and firmess. Applying vitamin C skin creams can give collagen levels a boost and lead to fuller skin. Be careful though, vitamin C creams are sensitive to sunlight and oxygen and can go 'bad' if exposed to them.

And what about vitamin K? This wonder vitamin has been shown to aid in diminishing post-operative bruising, treating unsightly spider veins and aiding in reducing dark circles that can form under eyes. In combination with retinoids (vitamin A derivatives), the signs of aging around the eyes such as wrinkles, darkened color and lines can be noticeably and rapidly improved.

So whether you choose to improve your diet or unleash a skin care regime that includes topical application of vitamin creams specially formulated for skin health and beauty, remember that success is unlikely to achieved overnight. Give time to your health initiatives and you will benefit not only on the surface but within as well.
