subject: 4c To Hit America First [print this page] The Alfa 4C was unveiled last year at the Geneva Motor Show; it took the automotive market by storm and helped boost morale at Alfa Romeo. Since then Alfa Romeo has been parading the mid engines sports car. At the moment there are only two new models available for sale, the Giulietta and Alfa Romeo Mito, making the launch of the 4C even more important.
Fiat, the parent group of Alfa Romeo has been trying to conquer the US market for a little while now. Last year it launched the Fiat 500 over in America, it has done well but the Italian brand will need to offer more than one car. The plan is to launch an Alfa Romeo based assault on the US market in 2014 with the 4C spearheading this attack.
There will be no new models for Europe between this time, which means European Alfa Romeo dealers will have to do with just 2 models for at least another 18 months. But hopefully the wait will be worth it as Alfa is planning on launching a five-door Mito, new Spider, Giulia saloon and estate (to replace the 159 range), a new compact SUV and the new 6C flagship saloon.
Once sales start in the US Alfa Romeo and Fiat as a bigger brand will turn its attention to the growing Chinese market. Fiat had a stand at the Guangzhou motor show late last year and was pleased with the response its models received.
The 4C will be a ground breaking car for Alfa Romeo and put it back on the map for many consumers looking for an exciting, beautiful and charismatic car. The 4C will be powered by a new 230bhp version of Alfas 1750 turbo petrol engine. In its present 197bhp state, this engine has a torque output of 236lb ft.
There have been no official dates announced for when the 4C will be launched in the UK, but we can assume it is at least 18 months away!
