subject: Harvest Season [print this page] As late summer transitions to fall, it is ushering in my absolute favorite season: Harvest season. Don't get me wrong, I love each and every new day the universe brings me, but as the harvest season approaches I feel it in every cell in my body and I am filled to the brim with anticipation. I live in a magical place called Baja California where the earth kindly provides fresh fruits and vegetables all year long, but it's the late summer harvest when Mother Nature showers us in splendid abundance.
I was completely overwhelmed at the farmer's market today; everything was so vibrant and alive. I was a child in nature's candy store. Sergio grows papaya, pears, a variety of apples, and mangoes the size of coconuts on his ranch high in the coastal mountains and will be at the market with his juicy pleasures the next 4-6 weeks. Manuel and Lupe grow raspberries, strawberries, and a variety of specialty grapes. I left the market with my shopping bags (reusable canvas, of course) overflowing with at least a dozen different colors.
I can't help but notice how I am reaping the abundant benefits of my own personal harvest. As the apple trees shed their fruit in hopes that a single seed will grow into a tree, my universe was birthing a new personal realty. It has always pained me to see others suffering from preventable and reversible disease. My acupuncturist says that there is no such thing as incurable disease, only incurable people. I wish I could get into every kitchen in America and show people how delicious healthy can be. My dream shed a seed. I could make videos and people could set up their laptops in the kitchen and cook with me. That was my first website, SplendorInThe Raw. We had a lot of fun with it but we outgrew it and needed to stretch our wings. And now, as we are at the cusp of a new harvest season, I am throwing out yet another seed hoping it will take root.
