Having blood in rectum can be a result of a number of causes. Sometimes, these causes are minor ones, and get solved by themselves, and do not need doctor's help. However, there are other causes that are very severe, and so the sufferer should get immediate diagnosis to see what the actual cause is. Usually, bleeding in the rectum is experienced by people who have haemorrhoids. Minor issues related to the blood in rectum include eating and digestive problems or those in the intestines, colon or rectum. Even though the cause of bleeding is not severe, it is still best to consult the doctor for satisfaction of the soul.

So, what are the common causes of Blood in rectum? This is asked by many people, as many people have rectal bleeding because of minor issues and few have major issues with severe bleeding. It is not always necessary that rectal bleeding is always excessive. It could be so little that it could be just spotting of blood from the rectum. Following are some of the causes because of which majority of the people having blood in rectum suffer:

One major cause is the presence of haemorrhoids or say piles. Irritation is caused in the area and veins get swollen, which eventually burst and blood flows out. Blood may be noticed like that, or it may be noticed in the stool. The rectal bleeding which is caused by haemorrhoids is not a very severe one and can be treated easily. Internal and external haemorrhoids both can be a source of rectal bleeding. It may get alright by itself, but if it does not, it is best to visit a doctor.

Ulcers are another major cause, especially the bleeding ulcers. If the ulcer occurs in the digestive track, it may be a bleeding ulcer, which may result in rectal bleeding.

People who developed colon cancer also have bleeding in the rectum. Tumor development in the colon may lead to irritation and also ulcer. In this case, the bleeding noticed is much more severe than that in the above two situations.

Then, there are also the anal fissures. These are small tears in the anus. People having anal fissures, if they see blood, then it is advised to seek doctor's help. A professional may tell whether it is ignorable, or whether the patient needs to be hospitalized.

So, overall, rectal bleeding may be of different severity levels. Sometimes, it may be just minor, but still medical help is the best option. In case of severe bleeding, the patient must rush to the hospital, where he may have tests, and if something severe is diagnosed, he may be hospitalized. So, anyone who develops this condition should not take it lightly but take help from a medical professional. If it is a serious problem, and the patient just leaves it taking it lightly then the problem may get severe and result in being fatal, eventually.
