There are many people who go abroad for their summer vacation to sit beside the pool and top up their sun tan.

After having put up with months of unrelenting slog in the so often dull and dreary climate of the British Isles such an indulgence is quite easily forgiven. The feel of the warm sun reflecting down upon the clear blue Mediterranean Sea is an experience that is truly well worth waiting for, and one that makes those weeks and months of toil in anticipation of this brief but very special encounter with how it was all meant to be all worthwhile, and worth the pain of the daily grind.

Others though like their holidays to be lively, to offer music, singing, dancing, interaction with other holidaymakers and generally to have a really good time. And in many cases the buzz and excitement of an active night life is complimented well by a week or two of sporting pleasure and adventure by day.

The essence of a luxury holiday is that whether one prefers to relax or to enjoy the night life or indeed to participate in sporting activities, everything one wishes to do is ready, organised and available. The hassle of having to find ones enjoyment by going out and hunting it down is conspicuously absent. Everything you want to do is there for you under one roof, or else is arranged by those who have been entrusted with the task of making your stay a happy and enjoyable one. That is what an all inclusive holiday is meant to be all about.

Organisations such as Club Med have prospered over many years by responding to the desires and demands of their millions of customers, many of whom happily return year after year. As the expectations of holidaymakers have become ever more sophisticated, so the service that is on offer has adapted to respond to those demands. For the all inclusive holiday service provider, the knack has been to manage that balance between responding to expectations and creating them.

In todays more health conscious environment it has become the practice of many resorts to provide gymnasia and other sporting amenities for people to use during the day, maybe amongst other things to counterbalance the negative effects of a week or two of unusually prolific eating and drinking.

One particularly exciting development has been the creation of summer tennis camps, in effect luxury holidays with all the trimmings but with the added appeal of providing tennis workshops for those who like to play. Nowadays there is so much to do for the holidaymaker who like everybody else wants to enjoy the sun and the peace and comfort of being away from it all whilst still remaining active and doing something physical.
