Wherever people gather together there has to be and usually is - some kind of conversation. But when you have to attend a function where you are sitting next to total strangers it can be a daunting task to get a conversation going. When you are the host or hostess of some function you want to know that your guests are enjoying themselves and the way for them to do this is by having conversation of some kind.

But how do you keep the flow of conversation going when it seems to be flagging. Or more importantly how do you get it started in the first place? Some people play ice breaker games that make people share laughter and feel more at ease with each other. When you have participated together in some fun activity like a game it helps you to feel comfortable about speaking with each other afterwards, too.

But playing a game while sitting around the dinner table is not always easy or appropriate and that is where table topics conversation cards come into their own. These are great conversation starters. Because it is a game, your guests will feel comfortable asking the questions; they don't have to worry about seeming to be nosy. They also learn a little about the person sitting next to them.

Table topics conversation cards are really flexible and can be played any way you like. Each guest can take one and then take it in turns answering the question it poses. Or they can ask that question of the person sitting next to them, or perhaps choose someone else to ask the question of. That person then has to make his answer heard by everyone.

You can get questions that are suited to a theme or age group or even a past era such as the eighties or sixties. You need never fear a silent dinner party, or worry about someone feeling left out when you have such an icebreaker on the menu.
