subject: Vitamins That Prevent Hair Loss [print this page]

The diet is vital for the overall nature and health of any life, but it is also vital for a healthy rate of hair growth. A healthy diet can be assisted by certain foods and vitamins, however some people do find it hard to implement those vitamins and minerals in to their diet, so sometimes, vitamin supplements can also be helpful.

Para-Aminobenzoic Acid (or PABA) is the vitamin that is known to be anti-grey hair. This was proven when tested on black animals. They were given a diet lacking in para-aminobenzoic acid and ended up with grey hair, until they were slowly reintroduced to the vitamin. Similar results were also shown in humans, while other fields of research have found that when combined, PABA and folic acid can assist the restoration of natural colour to hair. Para-aminobenzoic acid is found in foods such as yeast and whole grains as well as liver and kidney.

Also found in the vitamin group, this time in the B vitamin group, is Inositol. This is found in the brains and eyes as well as liver and kidney, and was also tested in terms of hair life on animals. When animals were fed a diet deficient of Inositol, they resulted in hair loss and baldness, until the vitamin was re-introduced into the diet and hair grew back. Another benefit of inositol is that it reduces the cholesterol level in the blood.

Biotin is yet another complex member of the V vitamin group. It is very important when it comes to preventing the hair from shedding as it metabolises fatty acids which stop the hair from turning grey. Biotin can be found in lots of foods, such as liver, egg yolks and milk, as well as kidney beans and yeast.

Calcium is vital to the diet in terms of healthy bone growth and strong nails, but also can contain a very important vitamin that helps to assist with the thickness of the hair and healthier rates of hair growth. Pantothenic acid also known as calcium pantothenate is very important when it comes to the life of the hair and the scalp. This can be foundn in cider vinegar, which is quite well-known for stopping hair loss while simultaneously initiating a thicker, healthier and more luscious hair growth.
